I Wanted to Believe...

that the new X-Files movie would be any good...and it was! I think it was actually better than the first movie. There was more story to this movie and fewer action scenes. But maybe I was just so excited to see Scully and Mulder again that if it had been an absolutely horrible movie, I still would have loved it. I don't know. I guess I'll have to go see it again, you know, just so I can be objective about it!

In other movie news, I also saw Mamma Mia with the husband before he left, and it was a lot of fun. And of course I got to look at Pierce Brosnan for an entire movie, so that was a nice bonus. And I got to sing ABBA music through the whole movie as well! In fact, after seeing Mamma Mia, I started singing "Mamma Mia" a lot. I sang it so much that Sunday during church Daniel, while holding the hymn book, asked where "Mamma Mia" was and he wanted to sing that instead of whatever we were singing at the same time!

I had to do it!

I had to change my background to celebrate the release of Breaking Dawn. Sorry, but I had to do it!

The Edward Onesie

Here's something else I've created at Cafepress.com (way too much fun, I tell ya!): The Edward onesie. Okay, it actually says, "My mom named me Nathan [in very small font] Edward. I think she's obsessed." And I am going to buy it for my Nathan Edward! How fun is that!

Happy Day!

He called! Of course, when he called, I scrambled to pull my phone out of my bag (all day long I've had the phone in my hand until I went to the hospital to see my sister-in-law) and in doing so I think I hit the "decline" button and I didn't get to talk to him! But he did leave me a message, so I feel a lot better now. Whew!

Saturday Shopping Therapy

Ah, shopping. It is truly one of the greatest therapies in the world. I think it might cost as much as a therapist sometimes as well.

Today, I went to the Downtown Salt Lake Farmers' Market (yes, again!). We didn't spend as much time there today as we did last time, but we'll be going back again soon. I did manage to spend some money there, however. Things I won't show you pictures of are my raspberries and blueberries (they got a little squished) and the scone from Great Harvest (because it's in my tummy now). I also got some more pico de gallo from Rico along with some cheese tamales and I bought some delicious pesto sauce from Liberty Heights (yes, it is a bit expensive, but I figure I can mix it with some more tomatoes and make it last longer and, dang it!, I'm eating alone (I'm not counting the children since one of them only drinks formula and a little rice cereal and the other two live totally on pizza, chicken nuggets, and toast with butter and jam) so I'm going to eat yummy stuff.

I met a great lady who sells the cutest pillowcase dresses for little girls (once again, I'm a little jealous of those of you with girls; I was so tempted to buy one for my neice) and other items. I bought a receiving blanket that has a vintage fabric on one side and super-soft flannel on the other.

She has an Etsy store at Vintage Fern, so you should check out her fun items. Or, of course, many of you who read my blog live close enough that you could go to the farmers' market yourself and buy her items in person.

After the Farmers' Market, we ran to the Don Aslett store (not as much fun as the Farmers' Market, but I did get some stuff to clean my bathroom with and some microfiber cloths) and then I ran into Roberts to buy a lamp that I had been thinking of since I saw it on Thursday (which is when we first went to the Don Aslett store, but it was closed because of Pioneer Day). And the lamp was on sale! Yipee! The original price was $60, but I got it for $24. Nice! I love when you get exactly what you want and get it on sale. The lamp is part of the redecorating of my bedroom, so I won't take a picture of it until I finish my room, or come close because I don't know how long it will take me to do my quilt.

We made one last stop at The Quilted Bear. We went there on Thursday as well, but our trip was cut short (and you know how long you can spend in the Quilted Bear if you've ever been there before), so we went back today. I bought a couple more things for my room (once again, I'm not going to show you yet :D), and got even more inspiration (I took pictures so I could actually remember things I want).

Ah, it was a good day. It was nice to get my mind off all of stuff and just enjoy a day of shopping with my mom.

Oh, and if you ever go to The Quilted Bear and decide to eat at the little Hungry Bear cafe in there and if you decide to get the Navajo Taco because you want some yummy frybread slathered in meat and cheese and sour cream, don't be too surprised when your food comes out and your Navajo Taco turns out to be served on a piece of white, homemade bread. It was a little disappointing. It was still good, but it was disappointing.

Well, the husband left this morning at 4:30 and I have yet to hear from him. He told me that when he got to Fort Something-or-other in South Carolina, he would be able to call me to let me know that he arrived safely.

And even though it's been 16 hours since he was supposed to fly out of here and I haven't heard from him, I'm not really worried that something would happen. My mom reminded me that no news is good news. What I'm most worried about is that I was somewhere in the apartment where I don't get a good signal on my phone when he called and that I actually missed his call. I would hope that he would leave me a message if that happened, but sometimes he doesn't think.

I really hope he calls soon, because I would like to go to bed since I've been up since he left this morning, but I can't fall asleep waiting for his call. I guess I better go see what's on TV.

Sad

The husband left at 4:30 this morning. I'm sad. There's not much more I can say about it.

More Twilight Shirts (and a bag!)

So, I was playing around today and I made a couple more designs for Twilight t-shirts and I even did one as a totebag! So, if you don't want your love for the Twlight saga spelled out across your chest, you can get the bag instead!

See my Cafepress store for details!

The Edward Shirt

So, I was going to buy this really cute shirt that Amy and Tavia were also going to buy to wear to our Twilight party on August 1st, but they were out of the fat lady size (grrr) in black. I could have got it in white, but I didn't want white. I was being contrary I guess. So, I decided to design my own shirt with CafePress.com. It took me all day! But it's done. *sigh*

You can barely read it in this pic, but it says, "My *heart* belongs to my husband, but Edward can have my neck!" Ha ha! I know, I'm soooooooooo funny. And I know everyone else (especially Nicole!) will want one too, so here's the link to my store. You can get it in ladies' sizes and women's. Yes, I rock!

Because working is overrated

Here's a little present for all of the four people who read my blog (and comment!).

http://www.85qm.de/up/BigRedButton.swf

You didn't want to work today, did you?

An Internet Movie Event!

Perhaps some of you, like me, will not be going out this weekend to see a movie. Although you want to see The Dark Knight and Mama Mia, you are plagued by the same malady as myself: payday isn't until next week! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

So, for you, I bring (well, not really me; I had nothing to do with it, but I am putting the link on my blog) Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog!

It made me laugh until I was laughing! Okay, I'll be serious now. It is seriously hilarious! But it's only available (totally for free for those of you who are lacking in the dough department; oh, it's free to everyone else too, even if you have money) Until Sunday, July 20 at midnight, so go see it now! And then watch it all over again! And then blog about it! Do it now! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Do Not Eat This! Part 2

While not as revolting as the Lean Cuisine Chicken Pesto Flatbread Sandwich, I suggest that you also stay away from the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Chicken Tuscany. While the chicken itself was edible, the rest of the meal was very bland. The vegetables, despite being "steamed" were soggy and there was way too much overdone pasta. So, once again, save your money and pass this baby up when you see it.

Memory Game

Aah, memories. I have one or two of them, maybe even about you! So, I'm going to play the game.

I posted on Nicole's blog.

Here are the directions for any who want to play along.

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you know me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.

New Pajamas

I think I'll sleep in these while I rest my head on the hot firemen pillowcase.

Whoa!

So, last night, I was just minding my own business, looking at fabric on eBay when I stumbled upon this little print...

I think it would make a lovely pillow sham, don't you? I should buy a couple of yards and make one for my husband too.

Help for the new mom or dad...

I found this fantastic book today that I wanted to share with you. I know that most of my 3 or 4 regular readers have newborns less than a year old. If you don't, I know you have new grandchildren, are expecting a new baby, have a new niece and/or nephew, or would like to have a new baby, grandchild, and/or niece or nephew, so I thought this book could help many of you. I'm just going to share with you a few (or maybe four) of the tips this book has to offer.

First, how to pick up a newborn:

Next, a nursing tip:

(but wouldn't it be nice!)

Third tip is for checking poopy bums:

And last, but not least:

If you would like to get some more helpful hints (and finish reading this book that almost made me pee my pants I was laughing so hard when I started reaidng it in the store. Hey! I am a new mom and it isn't easy to hold it in sometimes!), buy Safe Baby Handling Tips by David and Kelly Sopp. Or, if you're a close friend or family member, email me before our next get-together and I'll bring it. And you may want to bring a change of pants.

So, you think your baby is cute...

But do you have a cute cover for your baby carrier?

I have a baby carrier that was given to me by the hospital that we had our first child in, but I only used it a couple of times because it had a big, ugly patch on it with the hospital's name. I really didn't want to give the hospital some free advertising, so I just never used the thing. Now, with my 3rd child, I decided that I really wanted to use a baby carrier, so I started looking for something new and cute on Etsy. And that's when I found this baby carrier cover from Elle Baby Boutique and I decided that if I could have a cute carrier and be green by reusing something I already had instead of adding the carrier to the landfill, that I would buy it. And I did. I love it!

A Pretty Good Day

Today was a pretty good day.

It started out going to the Farmer's Market (one of my favorite summertime activities) with my mom and Nathan (he pretty much just slept the whole time in the baby carrier and I was reminded of what it was like to carry him around for 9 months). My feet and legs still ache from walking all over, but I got some great stuff and met some fun people.

This may sound a little weird ("Buttermilk syrup?!" I hear you saying), but it is delicious! And it should be. My mom figured that it was 3 WW points for half of a serving. So, I guess it's just a "sometimes food" as Cookie Monster would say. This person had some cool jewelry for sale, including this blank photo pendant. I'm going to use it to make a collage pendant. I'm excited to play with it.

The lady who makes these cute bags (which are completely reversible!) has a website,Ruthie Pearl, and an etsy shop where she sells her bags online. It looks like her etsy store is almost completely sold out right now, probably because she's been selling her lovely bags at the farmers' market. I think I'm going to go back and buy one of her big shopping bags too. This is a cute bag that goes across your chest. Love it!

I also met the lady who owns the Freshly Picked Etsy store and she's going to make me a wallet that will fit my camera! I think I want the one with the apples and the pears. Then I won't have to worry about getting the LCD screen scratched or damaged when I put it in my purse.

After all of the shopping fun, my mom and I had bratwurst sandwiches and Nathan got his bum changed and and a bottle of formula.

Later, my mom and I went to Western Gardens so she could buy some herbs and I saw my high school AP English teacher there. I got up the courage to talk to her (I don't know why I was shy, but I was), and I was glad I did. She was excited to find out that I'm an English teacher too. And she was happy that said "hello" to her.

Now, it is time to rest. I hope you all have a lovely night!

A Cool Summer Treat

This is one of my most favorite summer treats: Ice cold Horchata de Chufa and a magdalena (okay, this is really a Mantecada muffin that I found at 7-Eleven, but it's pretty close to Spanish magdalenas).

Now, horchata de chufa is an acquired taste. The first time I had it was my first full day in the mission in my first area, Elche. (Most of those who read my blog already know this, but I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as the Mormons. And we are not polygamists.) A member ran into us in the street and invited us to her home (well, I can only guess that's what she said as I understood not one of the words that came out of her mouth! It was like that scene from The Best Two Years where the new missionary said, "That's not the language I learned in the MTC."). She gave us a dry bread-like cake called La Mona and this drink, horchata de chufa, to dip the cake in. When I took a sip of the milky-white liquid, I wondered if the lady was trying to poison me; it was awful. I didn't know what it tasted like, just that it wasn't fit for human consumption.

After about 3 or 4 months, I came to actually enjoy horchata de chufa. And now it's one of the things from Spain that I miss. I couple of years ago, I found an online store called La Tienda that sells imported items from Spain and I bought several bottles of Chufi (the "original" horchata de chufa from Valencia) and put them in my freezer. The other day, I got one of the bottles out, thawed it out, and enjoyed it with a Mantecada muffin to dip in it. Mmm, it was like I was back in Elche.

At the same time, I gave the husband a taste of the wonderful substance, and he had the same response I first had to it. He couldn't believe how awful it tasted. That's okay; that means more horchata de chufa for me!

Happy 4th of July!

Yvonne, the Queen of the 4th of July parade, wishes you a happy 4th of July, and so do I!

Goodbye, Maternity Clothes. I Won't Miss You!

I just put all of my maternity clothes up for auction on Ebay. I'm so excited to be rid of them!
*update* Someone use Buy It Now and bought the whole lot for $75! Yipee!
